The Fairview Cemetery in Council Bluffs has been there a long time, since before the Mormons were in Kanesville, 1846-1853 as it was used for pioneer burials. There are no pioneer headstones however. It is located at the corner of Lafayette and Oakland Ave. Of particular note is the Black Angel placed to commemorate the death of Ruth Ann Dodge, the wife of General Grenville Dodge, the railroad baron. The sculpture is by Daniel Chester French. It is based on a dream Ruth had shortly before her death of an angel offering water. I must go back in the spring when the water should be running.
